Getting to Us
The key cycle routes approaching Eastbourne are the National Cycle Network Routes 21 and 89.  A map showing these routes is shown on the Sustrans website.

Cycling in East Sussex
With the freedom of a bike, the otherwise hidden corners of East Sussex are accessible, in addition to escaping the traffic congestion, parking problems and and timetables.  There's a route, site or terrain to suit one and all.

The South Downs Way dates back over 8,000 years to the Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age and follows the old routes and droveways along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the South Downs.  The undulating route provides a wonderful trip for long distance riders. The South Downs Way is only .9 of a mile from the New Wilmington.

The Cuckoo Trail provides a 13 mile (21 km) traffic-free route linking the Sussex Downs and the Weald.

The High Weald is a wonderful place with an amazing network of paths (2395 km), as well as lots of countryside sites owned by organisations such as the National Trust, RSPB, Woodland Trust and Forestry Commission.  There are 3 cycle routes along disused railway lines, 2 National Cycle Network (NCN) routes and 2 large countryside sites which have been developed for cyclists.

Cuckmere Haven is a great place to explore, particularly along the spectacular meanders of the Cuckmere River and is part of the Seven Sisters Country Park.

All of these wonderful places provide lots of opportunities to explore the area's rolling hills, abundent woodlands, open heaths, scattered farmsteads and sunken route ways.
